在精神分析中，containment（容纳功能）是一个非常重要的概念，主要来自Wilfred Bion。精神分析定义：Containment是指母亲（或分析师）能够接住、理解并加工婴儿（来访者）无法承受的原始情绪体验，然后以可以被消化的方式返还给对方。中文通常翻译为：容纳功能/情绪容纳/心理容纳。
Bion的理论框架：婴儿投射无法承受的情绪（恐惧、愤怒、混乱），母亲进行“容纳”（contain），母亲通过思考加工这些情绪（alpha function），再把可以理解的情绪返还给婴儿。这构成了container- contained模式（容器-被容纳物）。在治疗中，来访者-contained，分析师=container。
